Celebrate You

Hello my friends! Welcome to another Stamping Inkspiration's Blog Hop today. The theme for this month is "Celebrate You or Birthdays". There are 33 of us taking part this month so I hope you will check out everyone's post. You will not be disappointed!!

I am sharing a birthday card that I made for my Mother-in-law. She celebrated her 90th birthday yesterday. This has been a very tough year for her. She suffered a stroke on August 8th and then while she was in the hospital healing from that, she fell and broke her hip. It has been a huge struggle for her but fortunately she is a real fighter. I have not been able to see her since before August. While she was in the hospital and up until yesterday at her care home she was only allowed one assigned visitor and that was Doug. This has been a real celebration as I was finally able to have a visit with her on her actual birthday!

So here is the card I made for her.

I wanted to make this card larger than a regular A2 size because this is a pretty special occasion. I started with a Petal Pink card base. On top of that I added a layer of Basic White cardstock and on top of that I added a piece of DSP from the Peony Garden DSP package.

I cut out a rectangle from the Rectangle Stitched Dies and added it to the card front using dimensionals. On top of this I added the happy birthday sentiment that I cut out of Basic Gray cardstock using the Well Written Dies (retiring) and Playful Alphabet Dies for the number 90. I added the "th" by stamping it beside the 90 using Basic Gray ink and the Make a Difference stamp set (retiring). On a separate piece of Basic White cardstock I stamped the large peony from the Prized Peony stamp set. I used my Old Olive and Petal Pink Stampin' Write markers to colour the stamp before stamping it. The Petal Pink marker is in  the Subtles set and the Old Olive marker is in the Regals set. I used the corresponding die from the Peony Dies set to cut out the flower. I attached it to the right side of the stitched rectangle. I then added a bow using the Petal Pink organdy striped ribbon.

For the inside of the card, I wanted to do something special as well so I made a pop up sentiment.

I used Basic White cardstock for the inside piece that creates the pop up portion. On top of that, I added the same Peony Garden DSP that I used on the card front.

I cut out the HAPPY from Basic Gray cardstock using the Playful Alphabet Dies. I attached the letters on to strips of Window Sheets and attached these to the pop up portion and then covered it in another strip of the same DSP.  I stamped the word Birthday from the Happiest of Birthdays stamp set in Petal Pink ink and cut it out using a stitched rectangle from the Ornate Layers Dies set. I attached this to the strips of Window Sheets centered under the letters HAPPY.

I used my Stampin' Write markers on the smaller peony flower and stamped it onto a small piece of Basic White cardstock. I used the corresponding die to cut it out and attached it to the inside of the card.

Here are a couple pictures of my Mother-in-Law with her card and cake:

It was so great to finally have a visit with her. While we were there, we also phoned her sister. It really was something to celebrate!

    1. Thanks Jan! I think she liked it. She’s still pretty confused so has a hard time expressing what she’s thinking. She liked her cake though!
