Well this will be a bonus post today. As you all probably know, the new Stampin' Up! catalog will be going live June 3rd, such an exciting time! So because there will be new stamps to play with I was going through my stuff and pulling out the retired stamps. I found a stamp set that I recently purchased that I hadn't even used yet. This makes me very sad when this happens. When I discovered this brand new stamp that hadn't seen any ink yet I made a challenge to myself to make at least one card with it for my blog this week. The stamp set I am referring to is called Lovely is the Day and is a part of a bundle with the Lovely Leaves die set.
I had been thinking about this stamp set for a few days before getting into my stamp room. Monday, I spent the day doing yard work and I was planning out my card while I was weeding. I spent some time in my room on Tuesday and the cards I created were not that close to what I was dreaming of while I was weeding! Does that happen to you as well, the card you finally come up with is very far from what you originally planned?
This first card was not created for anyone in particular, I just liked what came together. For my card base, I used a piece of Purple Posy cardstock. On top of this, I layered a piece of Whisper White cardstock that I embossed using the Subtle 3D embossing folder. After I embossed it, I stamped the sentiment using Tuxedo Black Memento ink. I used my Stamparatus to stamp the sentiment so that I was able to stamp it a couple of times and be assured that it would line up perfectly. I wanted to do this because I wasn't sure how well it would stamp after being embossed.
I stamped the flower image onto a small piece of Whisper White cardstock using Tuxedo Black Memento ink and then cut it out using the Stitched Rectangle dies. I colored the leaves and flowers using my Stampin' Blends. I used Highland Heather, Daffodil Delight and Old Olive Stampin' Blends. I layered this piece onto a piece of Highland Heather cardstock. I wrapped a piece of Highland Heather baker's twine around this piece and tied it into a bow. I know you are probably saying "there is no such thing as Highland Heather baker's twine" and you would be correct. I actually used Whisper White baker's twine and dyed it using Highland Heather Ink refill mixed into some rubbing alcohol. I used the rubbing alcohol so that it would dry faster. You could also use your Stampin' Blends to color your baker's twine (or ribbon). I'm not sure how fast it dries doing it that way but since the Blends are alcohol markers, I would think it would dry fairly quickly. Just as a note of interest, the Whisper White baker's twine is retiring as well. I cannot believe it will not be in the new catalog. I'm not sure how I will cope without it as I use it a lot.
I used the smaller fern die that comes in the bundle to cut out 4 ferns from Pear Pizzazz cardstock and 2 from Vellum cardstock. Before I attached the flower piece onto my card front, I stuck the ferns onto the back of the flower piece. I attached 2 Pear Pizzazz ferns and 1 Vellum fern to the top right and bottom left corners of the image. Then I attached this to the card front using dimensionals. This is the first card using this gorgeous stamp set.
What I used to make this first card:
Lovely is the Day Bundle
Stamparatus
Subtle 3D Embossing Folder
Stitched Rectangle Dies
Highland Heather Stampin' Blends
Old Olive Stampin' Blends
Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blends
Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad
Whisper White Baker's Twine
Highland Heather Ink Refill
The second card using the Lovely is the Day stamp set was created for my new pharmacy team. When the pandemic was declared the way we get our prescriptions filled changed. I had some poor service at the pharmacy I had been using for many years so I switched to a new one. The new pharmacy staff have been so incredibly helpful and kind that I wanted to send them a card to let them know how much I appreciate them.
I started with a Thick Whisper White card base which I layered with a piece of Granny Apple Green cardstock. Next I added a piece of regular Whisper White cardstock that I sponged with Petal Pink and Pear Pizzazz inks. This piece looked a little too plain like this so I stamped some of the leaf images using Granny Apple Green ink. I really like how the two green inks go so well together.
I stamped the single flower image from this set using Tuxedo Black Memento ink onto a small piece of Whisper White cardstock. Then I cut it out using the Stitched Nested Labels dies. I stamped the leaf images on to this piece using Granny Apple Green ink stamped off once. I like how the leaf image stamp lines up so well with the leaves on the flower stamp. Then I colored the flower using Stampin' Blends. I used Petal Pink and Daffodil Delight. I wrapped a piece of Whisper White baker's twine around this piece and tied it into a knot. I am really going to miss this baker's twine! I added this piece to the card using dimensionals.
For the thank you sentiment, I used a stamp from the Free as a Bird set. I stamped onto a small piece of Whisper White cardstock using Tuxedo Black Memento ink and flagged both ends. This was added to the card using dimensionals. This is the second card using Lovely is the Day bundle.
What I used to make this second card:
Lovely is the Day Stamp
Free as a Bird Stamp
Stitched Nested Labels Dies
Petal Pink Classic Stampin' Pad
Granny Apple Green Classic Stampin' Pad
Pear Pizzazz Classic Stampin' Pad
Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad
Petal Pink Stampin' Blends
Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blends
Whisper White Baker's Twine
And these are the cards for today. I hope you have enjoyed them. Thanks for stopping by. Stay healthy and keep creating!
Terry
It's very unusual for my cards to end up exactly as I envisioned them. It can be quite frustrating, but often I'm happy with the end result.
