Card for a Challenge

Hello my friends! Have you ever wanted to make a card but were stumped on where to start? That is when a challenge comes in really handy. Today's card was made for the As You See It Challenge. You can check them out at http://www.asyouseeitchallenge.com/  . I used to do these challenges fairly often but for some reason got away from it. I was excited to give it a go this week.

The challenge this week was to do a sketch challenge on the bias. Here is the card I came up with.

I started with a Thick Whisper White card base. I added a piece of DSP from the Poinsettia Place  Designer Series Paper. I cut this to size and then put it in my trimmer and cut it from corner to corner to get the bias.

On top of this, I added a beautiful poinsettia that I cut out of Whisper White cardstock using the Poinsettia Dies. I also added a layer of vellum in my poinsettia and added a couple of vellum sprigs using the dies in this set. I used Tombo multipurpose adhesive to stick the layers of my poinsettia together and then used dimensionals to stick it to my card. To finish off the gorgeous flower I added a Beaded Pearl to the center with a glue dot.

I stamped my sentiment onto a strip of Whisper White cardstock using Tuxedo Black Memento ink. The sentiment is from Itty Bitty Christmas. I used my snips to cut a banner into each end of my sentiment and added it to the card front using dimensionals.

I didn't stray too far from the sketch in the challenge but I think this is a beautiful card even though it is fairly simple.

What I used for today's card:

Whisper White Thick Cardstock

Poinsettia Place Designer Series Paper

Whisper White Cardstock

Vellum Cardstock

Beaded Pearls

Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp

Poinsettia Dies

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I highly recommend checking out the many challenges that are out there in the world. For sure check out the As You See It Challenge. It will help you get your mojo back or if you have too many ideas, it will narrow things down for you.

Gnome for the Holidays

Hello my friends! Don't hate me but I had to bring out the Christmas stamps for today's card. I have had my new Christmas stamps for a while now but have been too busy to play with them. I decided it was time. Whether we will be ready or not, Christmas will be here before we know it. Today I have used a new stamp from the August to December catalogue, Gnome for the Holidays. These gnomes are so adorable!

This card came about because I had a piece of the ribbon from the All the Trimmings ribbon combo pack. My friend and upline dropped something off to me and this beautiful ribbon was tied around it. I hadn't ordered this ribbon, yet. Obviously after seeing it in person and seeing how gorgeous it is, I had to order it. I find it very interesting how cards get designed. Once I bought a T-shirt because it had a lovely picture on it that I thought would make a beautiful card. Anyways, back to today's card....

I started with an Old Olive card base to match the Old Olive ribbon. I knew I wanted to use the tree house stamp so I chose to use the wood grain paper from the Poinsettia Place DSP pack. I matted the DSP onto a piece of Soft Suede cardstock to match the Soft Suede in the wood grain. I tied the Old Olive ribbon around the cardstock with the DSP on it and tied a bow.

I stamped my images onto some Whisper White cardstock using the Tuxedo Black Memento ink and coloured them in using my Stampin' Blends. The colours I used are Real Red, Smoky Slate, Night of Navy, Daffodil Delight, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Old Olive and Ivory.  I used the Stitched so Sweetly dies to cut out the tree image and the sentiment but I fussy cut out the gnomes. I hope whoever receives this card appreciates that I actually fussy cut something because I really do not enjoy that. I used dimensionals to pop up the tree image and then used more dimensionals to pop the gnomes up on either side of the tree. I also used dimensionals to pop the sentiment piece.

What I used for today's card:

Gnome for the Holidays Stamp

Stitched so Sweetly Dies

Poinsettia Place DSP

Old Olive Cardstock

Soft Suede Cardstock

Whisper White Cardstock

All the Trimmings Ribbon Combo Pack

Tuxedo Black Memento Ink

Real Red Stampin' Blends

Smoky Slate Stampin' Blends

Night of Navy Stampin' Blends

Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blends

Crumb Cake Stampin' Blends

Soft Suede Stampin' Blends

Old Olive Stampin' Blends

Ivory Stampin' Blends

Thank you for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed this card. I am quite pleased with how it turned out. The little gnomes are so cute and the Old Olive ribbon coordinates with the card base and the colours in the gnomes, grass and leaves. Have you started on your Christmas cards yet?

My Grandchildren Turn 4!

Hello my friends! Today I will share two cards since this is such a special time in our world. The grandchildren are turning 4! Actually their birthday was August 26th but I didn't want to post this until after we had their party. With them living so far away and having my younger daughter's wedding in September, their birthday got put on hold for quite a while this year. Fortunately they came down for Thanksgiving weekend so we were able to have a small family celebration. So hard to believe how much they have grown from where they started only four short years ago. Aren't they just the cutest?

Like all four year old girls, Paisley loves princesses and like all four year old boys, Everett loves superheroes - especially Spiderman. Challenge accepted!

Here is the princess card:

Paisley's card had to have pink so I started with Melon Mambo. I had an idea in my head of creating the princess dress out of flowers but wasn't sure how it would go. I stamped the Bride image (from the retired set Wonderful Moments) onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock using Tuxedo Black Memento ink. I added some tape to the bouquet before I inked up the stamp and then removed it before I stamped. That way I was able to stamp the bride without the bouquet thereby creating a princess. I coloured the princess using my Stampin' Blends. I used Melon Mambo on the dress, Ivory for her skin and a combination of Dark Daffodil Delight and Light Crumb Cake to colour her hair. Paisley says her hair is "golden" so I wanted to create the same look for her princess.

I then used the retired Tree Builder punch to punch out the small flowers - all 85 of them!! I used my scoring tool and my piercing mat to create the 3D look on the flowers. I placed a flower onto my piercing mat and using my scoring tool, I pressed circles into the center of the flower until it curved up like this. I learned this when I took a cake decorating course and we did this with gumpaste flowers. I wondered if it would work with cardstock and it does! I repeated this with all 85 flowers so I would have enough to cover the entire dress.

I stamped the twinkle stars from the Hippo Happiness stamp set onto the card front using Versamark ink and added Gold embossing powder. I heated it to melt it. I then added Versamark to a Basic Pearl and added Gold embossing powder and heated it to melt. I placed the now gold pearl in the center of the twinkles. I drew a line using my Basic Black Stampin' Write marker to draw a line from the golden pearl to the princess's hand so it would look like she is holding a magic wand.

I stamped the sentiment from the Blossoms in Bloom stamp set onto a strip of Whisper White cardstock using Tuxedo Black Memento ink. I matted this onto a banner cut using the die from the Christmas Cardinals die set and retired Gold Glimmer paper. I also cut a number 4 out of the Gold Glimmer paper using the retired Little Numbers Thinlits dies set.

The final step to complete this princess card was to put a flowing bow on the back of her dress. I used the Whisper White crinkled seam binding ribbon to make my bow. I attached it using a couple of glue dots and that is the card.

What I used to create this card:

Blossoms in Bloom Stamp

Hippo Happiness Stamp

Christmas Cardinal Dies

Ivory Stampin' Blends

Melon Mambo Stampin' Blends

Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blends

Crumb Cake Stampin' Blends

Melon Mambo Cardstock

Basic Black Cardstock

Whisper White Cardstock

Versamark Pad

Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon

Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder

Wonderful Moments Stamp (retired)

Tree Builder Punch (retired)

Little Numbers Thinlits (retired)

Gold Glimmer Paper (retired)

Everett's card was a bit more of a challenge. I didn't have any superhero stamps so I knew it was going to have to be a punch art kind of a card. I immediately went to Pinterest and got a few ideas. This is what I came up with which is a combination of what I saw there.

I used a Night of Navy card base. To this I added a piece of Seaside Spray cardstock. I added a piece of Basic Gray cardstock to the bottom of this piece. I embossed the Basic Gray cardstock using the Brick & Mortar 3D embossing folder.

To create Spiderman I used Real Red and Pacific Point cardstock and a few different punches and dies to make the shapes I needed. I used Layering Ovals Dies and Layering Circles Dies for the body, arms, legs and head. I used the retired Bird Builder punch for his eyes, the retired Modern Label punch for his hands and I drew his boots by hand. I embossed all of the Real Red pieces using the Cobwebs 3D embossing folder.

I attached all of the little pieces to my card front using Tombo multipurpose adhesive except for his head. I used dimensionals to attach his head. I wanted it to have a little more depth.

I stamped the sentiment from Itty Bitty Birthdays using Tuxedo Black Memento ink onto a strip of Whisper White cardstock. I used my paper snips to banner both ends of this piece and added it to the card using dimensionals.

I used the retired Little Numbers Thinlits to cut out a number 4 from some Black Glitter paper. I added it to the top left corner of the card front using Tombo multipurpose adhesive.

What I used to create this card:

Night of Navy Cardstock

Seaside Spray Cardstock

Basic Gray Cardstock

Real Red Cardstock

Pacific Point Cardstock

Basic Black Cardstock

Whisper White Cardstock

Layering Ovals Dies

Layering Circles Dies

Cobwebs 3D Embossing Folder

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed these cards. Happy Birthday to the loves of my life!!

Paper Pumpkin September 2020

In case you were wondering if I am keeping on top of my Paper Pumpkin kits, I am! I put a suspend on last month's kit as I didn't think it was one that I could do much with and with the wedding and everything else going on in my world, I knew I wouldn't have had time to do it. That is another great thing with Paper Pumpkin. If you don't think you will do a kit or you know you will be too busy, you can just suspend a month with no fuss. I always make a point of getting the September kit. It is usually something Halloween related and is often a treat holder. This month's kit did not disappoint. It was a kit for Halloween crackers - you know like Christmas crackers but Halloween themed.

I have made up two of the crackers so far so I could share here what they look like. I will be putting the rest of them together but I want to get the treats to put inside of them first so I don't have to take them all apart to stick in the goodies. I think I will give them to my grandchildren and maybe they will be allowed to pass them out at their school. There are so many left over items in this kit that you could make a ton of cards, treat boxes or whatever else you can think of.

I also made a couple of Halloween cards using some of the items in this month's kit. This first one is for my granddaughter Paisley. She loves cats and is hoping to have one of her own.

I started with a Basic Black card base. On top of this I added a piece of Pumpkin Pie cardstock that I embossed with the Cobwebs 3D Embossing Folder. I used a sponge to add some Whisper White Craft ink on top of the cobwebs so they pop out a little more. I cut out a stitched circle from some Old Olive cardstock and added it to my card front using dimensionals. This is what I added my pieces from the Paper Pumpkin kit to. I added  a small pumpkin that I stamped a jack-o-lantern face onto using Tuxedo Black memento ink and some yellow swirls using Tombo multipurpose adhesive and then I added the black cat using dimensionals. I also added on some Basic Black rhinestones which are sadly retired but this girl loves some bling and these rhinestones were just what we needed. The piece that I stamped the sentiment on was in the kit as well as the banner piece that I attached behind it. I used Tuxedo Black Memento ink to stamp the sentiment and I popped this piece up using dimensionals. Again I had to add a couple of the Basic Black rhinestones.

The card I made for Everett is very similar to Paisley's. As they are twins, they like things to be similar but a little different.

I used basically the same things as I used on Paisley's card except I used the double pumpkins instead of the cat. I also added black swirls and some of the autumn coloured leaves. I had to add some of the Basic Black rhinestones to his card too. A few months ago I sent them both cards as I often do and he was a little upset that Paisley's card had more "sparkles" on it than his did. It was cards from a paper pumpkin kit that I was catching up on and it was the donut cards. The card I sent to Paisley must have had more bling than his but he noticed it and was not happy about it. Since then, I have been very careful to make sure that if their cards are similar, they have the same amount of bling.

What I used for today's cards:

Paper Pumpkin Subscription

Basic Black Cardstock

Pumpkin Pie Cardstock

Cobwebs 3D Embossing Folder

Stitched Shapes Dies

Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad

Whisper White Craft Ink

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed the projects and the cards. If you are trying to figure out how to be creative during this time of limited group activities, you might consider signing up for Paper Pumpkin. It comes to your door once a month and gives you lots of creating ideas and all of the items needed to make your projects. It is always a surprise but sometimes we get little hints about what will be i the kit. I know for a fact that next month will be Christmas cards!

Country Home

So have you ever made a card for someone who you have never met? I belonged to a Random Act of Kindness card group where we would send cards to strangers all over the world and then receive cards from other people who you do not know. This is a little different though as everyone in the group was a card maker so we had a common bond. I have a friend who went through a really big challenge this Spring. She would not have made it through without the help of a couple of her friends who I have never met. I am so grateful for them helping her as she was thousands of miles away from me so I was not in a position to help. I wanted to make a card for them to let them know how much I appreciate them helping our friend.

It is a challenge to make a card for someone who you don't know. I wanted the card to be simple but also wanted it to be gorgeous. This is what I came up with so I hope they like it.

I started with a Crumb Cake card base. I added a layer of Basic Gray cardstock on top of that. I stamped the Birch background stamp onto a piece of Whisper White using Gray Granite ink. I layered this piece onto the Basic Gray cardstock.

On another piece of Whisper White cardstock, I stamped the milk can from the Country Home stamp set using Tuxedo Black Memento ink. I also stamped the floral image with the cat tails and leaves on top of the milk can. Fortunately this set is photopolymer so it was easy to line it up properly. I used my Stampin' Blends to colour in these images. The colours I used were Smoky Slate, Soft Suede, Mossy Meadow, Old Olive and Crumb Cake. I also went over the milk can using my Wink of Stella to give it a bit of sparkle. It is difficult to see in the picture but it is there. Then  I used the Rectangle Stitched die to cut out this piece. I layered it onto another piece of Basic Gray cardstock. I wrapped a piece of Braided Linen Trim around this piece and tied it into a knot. I attached this piece of card onto my card front using dimensionals to give it a bit of depth. I stamped the sentiment using Basic Gray ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock. The entire sentiment says "simply thankful for all the good things". I didn't want the entire thing so I cut around the words that I wanted and kept the "simply thankful" as my sentiment. I popped this up onto my card using dimensionals.

What I used for today's card:

Country Home Photopolymer Stamp

Birch Stamp

Crumb Cake Cardstock

Basic Gray Cardstock

Whisper White Cardstock

Gray Granite Classic Stampin' Pad

Basic Gray Classic Stampin' Pad

Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad

Rectangle Stitched Dies

Smoky Slate Stampin' Blends

Soft Suede Stampin' Blends

Mossy Meadow Stampin' Blends

Old Olive Stampin' Blends

Crumb Cake Stampin' Blends

Braided Linen Thread

Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed today's card. I also hope that the recipients of this card like it. It is kind of strange to make a card for someone who I have never met. I would challenge you all to do that. Make a card and send it to someone that you don't know. You will probably make their day.
