Hello my friends! I hope you are doing well. I am doing great. I am really excited that the rules will be changing as of April 1st. I have not seen my mother-in-law since before August. She will be allowed to have two visitors for an hour instead of half an hour and we will be able to go to her room. Finally we will be able to personalize her room for her. When she had to move in to a care home, they said to be sure to make her room her home but we weren't able to actually bring anything in or go to her room. I think this will be really good for her. And all of this just in time for her 90th birthday!
Unfortunately this week I had to make a sympathy card for a friend. I should have made it sooner than this but to be honest, I find sympathy cards the most difficult of any cards to make. I sometimes have a small batch made up ahead of time but I wanted this one to be made especially for this friend. This is a friend that I met through the calligraphy guild and she has been such a kind person to me. Actually everyone in the guild is incredibly kind. It is sort of like card making people; we are like family.
So for today's card I wanted to use the Woven Heirlooms stamp set. It is unfortunately retiring as of May 3rd. The sentiments in this stamp set are perfect for sympathy cards.
I started with a Basic White Thick card base. On top of that, I added a layer of Pretty Peacock cardstock and on top of that, I added a piece of Soft Sea Foam cardstock. I embossed the Soft Sea Foam cardstock with the Subtle 3D embossing folder. I love how this embossing folder adds just a little something without overpowering the card. Sadly, it too will be retiring.
I used the Forever Fern stamp set to stamp various different leaf images and cut them out with their corresponding dies from the Forever Flourishing Dies set. I stamped one of the images in Soft Sea Foam ink onto Soft Sea Foam cardstock. I stamped another one in Old Olive ink on Old Olive cardstock. I also cut one of the larger images out of Vellum. I stamped the smaller berry image in Pretty Peacock ink on Basic White cardstock. I layered the various leaf and berry images in opposite corners of the card front.
I stamped the sentiment from the Woven Heirlooms stamp set in Pretty Peacock ink on Basic White cardstock. I cut it out using the Stitched Shapes Dies. I matted this onto an oval that I cut from Pretty Peacock cardstock using the Layering Ovals Dies set. Both of these dies will be retiring. I am really sad about this as I use these dies a lot!
I added the sentiment piece to the center of the card using dimensionals. This covers where the stems of the leaf images meet. I also added a bow to the sentiment piece. I used the Silver Metallic Edged Ribbon that I coloured using my Old Olive Stampin' Blends. The metallic edged ribbon will also be retiring.
To finish off the card, I added some frosted gems from the Frosted & Clear Epoxy Droplets. These will also be retiring. So many of my favourite things are retiring however, I know that there will be lots of new exciting items in the new catalogue.
What I used for today's card:
Pretty Peacock Cardstock (currently not available)
Pretty Peacock Classic Stampin' Pad (currently not available)
Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed today's card. I also hope it helps my friend to heal in this very difficult time.
Also, as promised I have a picture of Sharon with her goodies. She won the blogaversary draw and kindly allowed me to take her picture with her goodies.
I will be tallying the comments on my blog for the month of March and announcing that winner on Tuesday's post.
Happy Easter everyone! I hope the bunny brings you some yummy treats.
Stay well and keep creating!
